3 Tips To Tan Safely This Summer

Though this summer is a little different then summers past, one thing I do know is nothing stops a sun worshipper from soaking up the sun. Whether it’s a day at the beach, laying out in the backyard or on your rooftop, or even laying out in your local park, here are 3 ways to get your summer glow on safely.

Block Your Face (at least!)

As sun worshipper myself, I understand craving that healthy summer glow. As an esthetician however I also know that the sun’s rays are only second to cigarette smoke when it comes to free radicals! Everyone wants that tan, but nobody wants the sun spots and wrinkles it can cause. Do yourself a big favor and wear sunblock on your face, and bonus points for your neck and décolleté as well. Reapply as recommended. Also try wearing a hat, visor, or face canopy for even more protection. Don’t want that uneven tan? This is what bronzer is for. Seriously, you’ll thank me in 5 years.

Skip Exfoliators and Brighteners (for now)

Exfoliating the face makes your skin more sensitive to sun exposure, aka sunburns. That also applies to your skin brightening protects as well. Summer is the perfect time to scale down on the anti-aging routine and keep things simple.

Amp Up Your Moisturizer

Sun exposure dries your skin out, so it’s important to stay as hydrated as possible. Load up on body creams and oils. Personally I have began using my face oil during the day now (under my sunblock) and my moisturizer at night. We all know what a lake bed looks like when the water is drained. Don’t let that be your skin!

Again, I know I can’t stop my summer babies from letting that sunshine in, but as long as you do it safely, you’ll keep that  skin of yours looking healthy for years to come.
